For Prospective Families

School requests can be made at ExploreMPS. 

Because Northrop is a Community School, preference is given to families who live within the Attendance Area for the school. Even if you live in the Attendance Area, you need to request a placement at the school.

After MPS gives your student a placement at Northrop, Northrop office staff will contact you about school registration. This is separate from placement and confirms your enrollment at the school. 

Kindergarten Round-up Event

Each May, Northrop hosts a Kindergarten Round-Up event where families can complete registration paperwork, meet the kindergarten teachers, tour the kindergarten classrooms, and even ride a school bus on a short trip! Kindergarten Round-Up usually takes place during the first or second week of May. Please refer to the calendar to find the date of Kindergarten Round-Up for the upcoming school year.

Arranging Transportation & Before/After School Care

Remember to submit your transportation request with MPS to ensure a bus stop for the start of school. These requests are typically due mid-summer and are handled through the central MPS Transportation office. Your student will not be able to ride the bus without an official bus tag, which is generated after you make a request through MPS.

If you need before or after school care, remember to explore available options and get registered. Programs like Minneapolis Kids and Rec Plus typically hold registration in the late spring.

Information about the new school year, including teacher placements, will be sent out in late August after Northrop staff return to the building. 

Back-to-School Open House

Each year, Northop hosts a Back-to-School Open House event the week before school starts the Thursday prior to Labor Day. At this event, students and families can visit their new classroom, tour the building and meet their teachers.
