Childcare
Minneapolis Kids
Minneapolis Kids is offered on-site at Northrop through MPS Community Education and provides year-round, fee based school-age care for families and youth enrolled in High Five through 6th grade. Care is available from 6:30 am - 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday with Before and After-School and full-day care on most Non-School Days and the summer. Explore the Minneapolis Kids website for specific details and enrollment and/or contact Northrop's Minneapolis Kids program coordinator, Dakota Rine, with questions.
Rec Plus
Recreation Plus (Rec Plus) provides fee-based school-age childcare for children in grades K-6, ages 5-12 at neighborhood recreation centers. Activities includes STEM, arts and crafts, walking trips, theme activities, sports and more.
The Sibley Park Rec Plus location provides before and after school care and caregivers can arrange for bus transportation to/from school. Release Days are also an option for children enrolled in the school year program. (Not all sites have the release day option. Rec Plus school year clients may be offered an alternate site.) Visit the Rec Plus website for more information.
After School Classes
MPS Community Education
After school classes are offered at Northrop each Fall, Winter and Spring for 8-10 weeks. MPS Community Education class offerings vary each session and range from sports and visual arts to Chess Club and Kendama. After school classes are offered Monday-Thursday. There is not currently bussing from after school classes. Students must be picked up or allowed to walk/bike home between 5:20-5:30 PM.
In order to ensure that these classes are accessible to all families, MPS Community Education offers fees on a sliding scale. Families that qualify for educational benefits or are otherwise unable to pay the actual class fee can opt to pay a lower amount (without submitting any additional paperwork). Families who are able and wish to support the sliding scale model can choose to pay more than the listed class price.
Information about classes, including fees, is sent out via email and backpack flyers a week or two before session registration begins. Contact Northrop's Community Education coordinator with questions:
